Pope Francis is Argentinian, so I’m always on the lookout for “argentinismos” – the idiomatic expressions that Argentinians use that are different from other Spanish-speakers. I was really confused when he used a verb I hadn’t used before: “misericordiando.” Well, I finally figured it out. He was coining a phrase! La misericordia is compassion or mercy, so he was saying that the Lord God is mercying people.
So that’s my word of the week, even though he used it a while ago. I like the idea of it: We always say that people are compassionate, but this is an action.
