Decorating Nonsense

The furniture is moved and the floors are washed. The tree is up but not yet trimmed. The two silk Flores de Noche Buena aka Poinsettias are in the bedrooms. And bits of pine tree and cones are placed in various places so that their scent makes up for the tree fakery.

Someone asked me why I bother to decorate for Christmas since I spend so little time en casa from Thanksgiving through Epiphany. It’s not just tradition but the beauty of lights in long nights and the sheer shake-up-the-routine sparkle that comes from anticipation.

Also, my birthday is in December, so I have at least 20 years of gift ornaments, and this is the time of year to enjoy those presents and remember those givers.

I may not be a good flower arranger, but evergreens and nuts are my strength. The bowl is one of my throwing wheel adventures that turned out right.

Happy Thanksgiving to my American friends.
